Cardinals walk off with championship
The 11U Creemore Cardinals were in Midland this past weekend for their first tournament of the season. Creemore was in a pool with the Barrie Baycats, Sault Ste. Marie Black Sox and the Komoka River Cats. Under the lights on Friday the Cardinals started off pool play with a 15-0 win over the Baycats and followed that up with a 14-0 win over the Black Sox on Saturday. The team secured a spot in the semi-final when they beat the River Cats later that day 16-5.

In the semi-final on Sunday the team started out the day by defeating The Muskoka Hornets 16-0. However, the championship would be a much closer contest than any of the first four games of the tournament. This was a rematch with Sault Ste. Marie and Creemore found themselves trailing midway through the third inning 5-1, but would tie it up in the fifth 5-5. The Black Sox scored two in the top of the seventh to go ahead 7-5, but the Cardinals again tied it in the bottom on a single by Evan Wells that scored Cooper Duits, sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth Sault St. Marie scored once and had the bases loaded with only one out before Keenan Reynolds struck out the last two hitters. In the bottom of the inning the Cardinals loaded the bases for Dylan Rayburn who hit a walk-off grand slam to win the tournament.

This Sunday the team will host The Midland Twins for a double-header at 10 a.m. at Gowan Park.
