The Creemore Cardinals went 5-0 last weekend to win the Mississauga Tigers 13U AA tournament.
The Cardinals were dominant throughout the weekend, and it started with a 17-3win over the host team on Friday night. Hayden Goodfellow-Oster pitched well and had two hits while Cooper Duits earned the win on the mound with two scoreless innings. Dylan Rayburn had 3 RBI and Keenan Reynolds had 5 RBI including a grand slam in the second inning, the first of his six home runs he would hit over the weekend.
The team won two games on Saturday beginning with an 8-3 win over the Whitby Canadians. Reece Fuller earned the win with five strong innings on the mound before leaving with a 4-3lead and having Nate Patterson close out the game and with his first save of the year. Connor Greenside had two hits and Evan Wells hit his first home run of the year in the fourth inning with the Cardinals down 3-1 to spark a go-ahead rally.
Another strong pitching performance followed in the afternoon when Drew Hamilton fanned the first five batters of the game enroute to a complete game shutout of the Bloordale Bombers. Grayson Fisher had two RBI with two hits including a double and stolen base. These first three wins put the Cardinals in first place in their pool and earned them a spot in the semi-finals on Sunday.
The semi-final game saw a True Win from Keenan Reynolds. A True Win in is when the starting pitcher throws a complete game and has more home runs than runs allowed. This feat is rarer than a no-hitter; last done in the MLB by Noah Syndergaard in 2019 and is near impossible now with the designated hitter used in both leagues. Keenan threw a complete game shutout and hit two home runs almost singlehandedly beating North York. Thomas Weldon also homered in the13-0 win.
The Cardinals came out strong in the championship with a 5-run first inning against the Martingrove White Sox in a game that would end up 12-2. The team is back home for two games this Sunday beginning at 10am and one Friday, August 2 nd at 6pm. They are currently in first place in the YSBA AA loop.
