Cardinals win Chatham Diamonds Tournament
On Friday the Cardinals faced the Orangeville Bengals in the first game of the annual Chatham Diamonds tournament. A four-run first inning got the Cardinals off to a quick start. Two RBI by Hayden Goodfellow-Oster and three hits by Cooper Duits led to a 16-0 win.

The second game of the tournament pitted the host Diamonds verse the Cardinals and this game would be much tougher. The Diamonds got out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning and the Cardinals battled back but came up short losing 8-3: their first loss of the season. Reece Fuller kept the Cardinals in the game with three excellent relief innings and Drew Hamilton had two hits, a run and his tenth stolen base of the season.

The Thorold A’s were up next in a must-win game for Creemore. Thomas Weldon took the mound and threw five shut-out innings giving up only two hits, while Dylan Rayburn continued his outstanding season at the plate with three hits, upping his batting average to .639 and leading the Cardinals to a 10-0 victory and placing the team in the semi-finals.

The Tecumseh Rangers were the opponent in the semi-final on Sunday morning. Tecumseh was the first seed in pool A after going 3-0 with wins over the Brantford Red Sox, Newmarket Hawks, and the Chatham Diamonds 10U team. Once again Creemore got some excellent starting pitching, this time from Brayden Foulds. Creemore scored first in the bottom of the second inning when Jack Hutchison drove in the first of four runs. The relentless Creemore offense was too much for Tecumseh and an 11-2 victory put Creemore into the championship game.

The championship game was a rematch with Chatham Diamonds. Evan Wells got the start and provided the team with yet another great starting pitching performance. This time it was the Cardinals who took the lead with one run in the first, one in the second and three in the third to get out to a 5-0 lead. Chatham; however, would answer in the top of the fifth scoring two quick runs and loading the bases with just one out when reliever Keenan Reynolds shut the door with a strikeout and ground ball. Paul Twiss came in to pitch with two outs in the seventh and induced a comebacker to the mound which he threw to first to end the game and win the Cardinals their second tournament of the season.
